LOS ANGELES- A Los Angeles man has been indicted for allegedly selling counterfeit erectile dysfunction pills to a man for $1,000, authorities said Wednesday. Assistant United States Attorney Steve P. Davis of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced that the drugmaker also ordered that it use the product to sell to the state of Texas. The investigation is ongoing and the federal and state investigations are ongoing.
The case is an investigation into the sale of counterfeit erectile dysfunction drugs in Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The suspect, who is based in the Orange County area, was arrested in September 2017 after allegedly receiving packages of counterfeit Viagra in a convenience store in the Southern California suburb of Cattaraugus, according to an indictment.
Possible causes for the alleged sale include a lack of proper health insurance coverage, counterfeit pharmaceuticals, and counterfeit Viagra pills. An investigation of the sale and the packaging of the pills revealed the product could have contained potentially harmful ingredients, including those made in China.
The suspect, who is not listed as a defendant in the indictment, has been charged with a felony violation of the federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, and a misdemeanor violation of the California Penal Code. The investigation is ongoing.
